Purpose and Covenant
Purpose and Mission
The purpose and mission of this church shall be to endeavor by the guidance of God as provided solely in His Word, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, to fully and genuinely love and worship God as stated in Mark 12:28-31 and to carry out the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ as stated in Matthew 28:18-20. To this end, every member of this church shall be urged to surrender themselves in the appropriate worship of God and to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to all people, both personally and representatively. Converts shall be instructed as to their responsibility to publicly confess their individual, personal relationship with Jesus Christ by baptism (immersion in water). All church members will be taught in matters of Christian conduct, group and individual Bible study, church attendance, personal soul winning, tithes and offerings, faithfulness to Christ, and any other areas of Biblical instruction deemed necessary for the glory and worship of God and for the spiritual prosperity and growth of the individual Christian. This shall be further facilitated through the holding of regular and special church services.
Covenant
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour, and on profession of faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now, in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body of Christ. We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to fully, genuinely and properly love and worship God; to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrines; to give it a sacred preeminence over all institutions of human conception; and to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel to all nations and peoples; all for the glory and praise of Almighty God. We also engage to maintain family and private devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred, acquaintances, and all others; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful to our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from worldly amusements; to be free from all oath-bound secret societies and partnerships with unbelievers; to abstain from the sale or use of narcotic drugs; and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the Kingdom of our Saviour. Other standards or leadership requirements, as approved by the pastor and deacons, for Christian living, will be addressed for those serving in positions of ministry leadership. We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy of speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Saviour, and to secure reconciliation without delay. We moreover engage, that when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible unite with some other Baptist church of like faith where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
